Did you know that if you have gouges on a tabletop that need filling, and you plan to stain it to get that woodgrain effect, the stain will always appear different over the top of whatever fill you use, simply because it can not absorb the same way as the rest of the timber.
There is a solution. You can paint the top and create a faux woodgrain effect using graining tools.
This technique is also great for laminate surfaces.
In this workshop you will practice a few different colour combinations and effects on some timber planks, before completing your own small piece.
Bring a piece of furniture (a lightweight coffee table is recommended. Your piece must be prepared at home by cleaning and rinsing with white lightning and a light scuff sand, an then wiped over with a damp cloth to remove any dust residue. We don't want to be wasting your class time with prep as you may not get to finish your piece otherwise.
